Para finales de julio está previsto de inicio la Quinta Edición de la Liga Superior de Baloncesto, misma que tiene como vigente campeón al Real Estelí Basket. Los norteños han ganado todas las ediciones de esta competencia.
Además del equipo rojiblanco, las Brumas de Jinotega, que son los subcampeones de la edición 2021, participarán en la competencia de este año; asimismo estará presente la UNAN – León, Leones ALMA, Frente Sur Rivas, Occidentales (Chinandega), UNI e Indígenas de Matagalpa.
También, la Costa Caribe, equipo que regresa después de estar ausente en la Cuarta Edición. El nuevo conjunto que se une por primera vez a la LSB son los Jaguares de la UAM, mismos que desde ya han anunciado la contratación de jugadores extranjeros, entre ellos, el nigeriano y ya conocido Jeleel Akindele.
Una semana después que de inicio la LSB 2022, se prevé arranque la segunda edición de la Liga Superior de Baloncesto Femenil.
